Welcome to American Immersion at McDonogh School. We offer a comprehensive summer program for international students ages 9 through 17. Designed to help improve English language skills and expose students to American culture, our program makes learning fun with a unique combination of academics, cultural interactions, language instruction, travel, and traditional summer activities.
Visitors to McDonogh from other countries report that there is no better place for a cultural exchange. Our welcoming community, beautiful campus, diverse activities, and the close proximity to major cities have made McDonogh a favorite destination of visiting students from many countries, including Bolivia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Germany, Mexico, Korea, Russia, and Thailand. Friendships among participants often continue beyond the summer experience here.
Students enrolled in American Immersion will participate in McDonogh’s Summer Camps, which offer quality academic, art, and athletic programs. Days of serious fun are followed by evenings of serious learning. Our faculty is committed to helping international students reach new levels of understanding and mastery through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. While on campus, American Immersion students will live in our comfortable and secure residence halls, home to McDonogh students during the school year.
During each two-week session, McDonogh offers activities and trips that allow students to experience American culture and practice their English while venturing to some of the country’s most interesting cities—Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York. Additionally, students have the opportunity to enjoy classic American pastimes, including professional baseball, movies and live theater, and an amusement park.
