Middle School - Academics - McDonogh School

Middle School

Welcome

Recognizing the complex developmental stages of adolescence, McDonogh's Middle School creates a place for fifth through eighth graders to grow and flourish. We foster an environment in which students take responsibility for their choices, navigate their failures, and celebrate their successes. Students are encouraged to work diligently, do their best, and respect all work done by others. Our goal is to enhance their ability to live by McDonogh's Character Compass values of respect, responsibility, honesty, kindness, and service.

Middle School offers a stimulating and challenging academic program, utilizing an interdisciplinary approach through which emphasis is placed on deep and authentic problem- and project-based learning. In conjunction with programs in fine and performing arts, ethics, physical education, and community service, we aim to develop students’ critical and creative thinking skills, strong work habits, willingness to ask questions and take risks, and genuine love of learning.

Throughout the Middle School years, a strong sense of community develops from positive group interactions, cooperation, collaboration, and respect for others. Our goal is to send our students to the Upper School with integrity, a strong sense of personal responsibility, pride in their accomplishments, and confidence in their potential.
