There is no single portrait of a McDonogh student or graduate. A McDonogh education prepares students for whatever path holds the most purpose for them — the colleges they attend, the careers they build, the communities they serve, and the leadership they offer along the way. What unites our more than 7,400 alumni around the world is a shared commitment to our founding charge: to give something more than we take.
Below, you'll find not a single portrait but a collage of what a McDonogh education makes possible — in numbers, in destinations, and in the words of alumni living lives of purpose and impact.
Through our LifeReady approach to education, McDonogh graduates are prepared to think deeply, ask insightful questions, solve real-world problems, innovate, and lead with purpose.
With integrated programming at every grade level, Greatest Good McDonogh cultivates empathetic leaders who realize their power and potential to do the greatest good in the world.
Our graduates are taught how to think — not what to think — and emerge as self-reliant, critical thinkers who can form, test, and revise their ideas, for themselves and in service to others.
McDonogh's college counselors, faculty, and coaches work closely with each student to identify the colleges and universities that best align with their interests, personalities, and aspirations — both academically and, for student-athletes pursuing collegiate competition, athletically.
Below are lists of college matriculations and athletic commitments in recent years.

Data from the past four academic years: 2022–2023 through 2025–2026.
The McDonogh experience is only as meaningful as the lives of purpose it shapes. In their own words, the following alumni reflect on how their time at the School still informs the way they work, lead, and serve.
"Arriving at McDonogh as a scholarship student and boarder in 1961 changed the course of my life. The School's commitment to developing the whole person — discipline, character, opportunity — gave me tools and confidence I carried far beyond graduation. McDonogh didn't just prepare me for college; it transformed who I was and who I could become."
"At McDonogh, I learned more than academics; I learned how to live by core values. Integrity, resilience, and respect inform how I carry myself and how I show up for the people and places I care about. Because of that foundation, I consciously try to leave every environment better than I found it."
"At McDonogh, there is no single definition of what it means to be a scholar, and therefore, I was given the freedom to pursue my individual interests. McDonogh instills in its students lifelong curiosity and critical thinking, which has given me the confidence and drive to learn new skills as my career evolves."
"Few places bring together such a diverse group of young people the way McDonogh does. That diversity was one of the greatest gifts of my time there. Learning to navigate, respect, and genuinely connect with people different from myself made me a better person and prepared me for a life of meaningful relationships and leadership."
"My McDonogh experience afforded me the unique opportunity to challenge myself academically and socially while providing exposure to meaningful experiences. I left McDonogh confident in who I was and my ability to affect change in my career and community, and with lasting friendships that I have leaned on throughout my life."
"McDonogh showed me how to foster a deep sense of community and belonging — a central pillar of my work and approach today. I am especially grateful for the opportunities McDonogh provided for emergent leadership through extracurricular activities. I will never forget how empowering it was to start the Quidditch Club on campus or serve as editor in chief of the literary magazine, Ragnarök."
