McDonogh Chapter of the Cum Laude Society
Members of the Classes of 2026 and 2027 were welcomed into the McDonogh Chapter of the Cum Laude Society, which recognizes academic achievement grounded in character, honesty, and integrity. They joined 18 seniors who, in 2025, were inducted into the prestigious honor society.

Presented to the underclass student who has demonstrated determination, enthusiasm, and courage in meeting the challenges of life, setting an example for classmates, faculty, and friends.

The Blanche A. C. Wells Award: Chisom Akali '28 and Christian Hill '28
This award is presented to two sophomores who have most nearly lived up to the ideals taught by Louis E. Lamborn during his 26 years as Headmaster.

The Underclass Leadership Award: Juliana Smith '29, Sommer Stablein '29, Amber Holt '28, Angad Sood '28, Huy Le '27, and Emnet Tesfayohannes '27
This award is presented to those students who, throughout the year, have exerted a major positive influence on the life of the School through conduct as a person and capacity as a leader.

This award is presented to the freshman who has been the greatest inspiration to fellow students throughout the year.

The Class of '40 Award: Maxine Koymen '28 and Ming Li '28
This award is presented to the sophomores who have been the greatest inspiration to fellow students throughout the year.

The Louis E. Lamborn Award: Alexa Gamber '27 and Cole Genua '27
This award is presented to the junior who best exemplifies the ideals taught by Louis E. Lamborn, Headmaster 1926–1952.

The Excellence in English Award: Anya Viswanathan '26
This award is presented to a senior who has excelled in the study of English.

This award is presented to a senior who has excelled in creative writing.

The English Achievement Award: Milie Singh '26
This award is presented to the senior who has combined outstanding achievement and extraordinary passion in the study of English over the past four years.

The Shirley Klein Journalism Award: Lucy Zhang '27
This award is presented to the underclass student who has demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for school journalism and student publications to attend a journalism seminar.

This award is presented to the seniors who, through writing, leadership, energy, and concern for others, have contributed most consistently to high standards of school journalism.

This annual scholarship award ($15,000) is presented to one McDonogh senior who will major in engineering in college.

This award is presented to students who have demonstrated excellence in technical theatre and made significant contributions to the performing arts.

This honor is given based on a student's overall contribution to the Upper School Performing Arts program.

This award is presented to the art students who have evidenced the most improvement in expressing their artistic talent.
