Bruce Voelker '83 - Endowment Giving - McDonogh School

Bruce Voelker '83

"The more students who experience a McDonogh education, the better off our society will be."

In January 2022, Bruce Voelker '83 generously established a scholarship with a planned gift and cash commitment as part of McDonogh’s Legacy Campaign.

What inspired your generous Legacy Campaign gift to create the Bruce D. Voelker '83  Scholarship?
While it would be easy to say that I am "paying it back" for the scholarship I received more than 40 years ago, the truth is that I was inspired by what McDonogh has become, not what it was during my time. McDonogh is committed to teaching students to be well-rounded, LifeReady, and open-minded. All children, from all backgrounds, should have the opportunity to benefit from that commitment. The more students who experience a McDonogh education, the better off our society will be.

What impact do you hope your gift will have on McDonogh’s students?
I know that this gift allows someone to attend McDonogh who otherwise could not, and I hope that he or she brings their authentic self to campus, creating a diversity from which all can benefit. I hope that the chance to attend McDonogh helps a student to find their passion in the breadth of opportunities McDonogh offers, and sets them on a course that will bring them joy in their life beyond McDonogh.
