Head of School Dave Farace '87 Announces Departure at End of School Year
McDonogh School announced today that Dave Farace '87 will conclude his tenure as Head of School at the end of the 2026- 2027 school year to become Head of School at The Benjamin School in Florida. Farace, a 1987 graduate of McDonogh, has led the school since 2018.
Under Farace's leadership, McDonogh completed a $97 million capital and endowment campaign, nearly doubled its endowment to $188 million, opened a new Middle School building, expanded its academic and dual-credit programs, and reached record enrollment. USA Today also recognized the school as Maryland's No. 1 school for athletics in 2025 and 2026.
"Dave has led McDonogh with care, conviction, and a deep commitment to our students," said Mike Cummings, president of the Board of Trustees. "He leaves the school stronger than ever and well-positioned for its future, and we are grateful for all he has given this community. We wish him every success in his new role."
In a gathering of faculty and staff, Farace said, "McDonogh made me who I am, as a student and as a leader, and I will carry this incredible community with me wherever I go. I am proud of all we have built together and certain that the School's best days are still ahead." He added, "Leaving is hard, but I know the time is right, and I do it with deep gratitude and full confidence in McDonogh's future."
The Board of Trustees will soon commence a thorough search for the next Head of School.
