Sophomore Earns 3rd in Chinese Speech Contest
McDonogh sophomore Zach W. was one of 25 students, representing 12
states,
who competed in the Annual Chinese Bridge Speech Contest for U.S. High School
Students at the University of Massachusetts Boston on Saturday, March 19. Zach
earned third place for his speech entitled, “A Musical Language,” which
compared the tone in Chinese language to that of music. Accompanied by Upper
School Mandarin Chinese teacher Jenny Li, Zach is the first McDonogh student to
have competed in the finals of the Boston competition.
The Confucius Institute at University of Massachusetts Boston hosts the
highly
competitive Chinese Bridge Speech Contest on campus each year. The
prestigious contest provides a great platform for high school students to
demonstrate their talents and achievements in Chinese language and culture.
The Confucius Institute began hosting this nationwide competitive contest in
2007 and has attracted more than 10,000 students from 140 high schools
throughout the U.S.
