Signing Day for Scholar Athletes

On Wednesday, February 3, seven McDonogh scholar athletes signed official letters of intent to play their sport at a Division I college or university. An enthusiastic crowd of parents, siblings, teachers, coaches, teammates, and classmates were on hand for the special ceremony in the Aarsand 1873 Room.

Before anyone put pen to paper, Athletic Director Mickey Deegan addressed the seniors, saying, “On behalf of McDonogh School, we are grateful to you for sharing your talent and passion on the soccer field and gridiron. You have brought honor to your school and distinction to yourself and your family. You are blessed with a special talent, and we know you will continue to share yourself with your future teammates.”

Deegan also acknowledged their parents, noting, “You have been as much a part of the teams as your kids, and we are grateful for your support over the years.”

As each senior came forward, their coach explained why they were heavily recruited, touting ability, sportsmanship, leadership, character, and promise to achieve in Division I programs.
