Cultivating Character Kickoff
Wednesday, September 9 marked the kickoff of Cultivating Character, the Lower School's signature social-emotional learning program, grounded in the values of the McDonogh Character Compass (respect, kindness, honesty, responsibility, and service).
Students read Same, Same But Different by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw, the story of pen pals Elliott and Kailash, who live oceans apart in America and India but discover just how much they have in common. Students then reflected on their own identities by creating colorful hearts that express who they are.
Through activities like these, Lower School children are learning to embrace their uniqueness, celebrate differences, and build connections with kindness and respect.
