The McDonogh community came together for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 19, completing meaningful projects at home and dropping them off to support 16 local nonprofits. Students, families, and staff contributed to a wide range of efforts designed to meet immediate needs while fostering compassion and connection.
They assembled Learning in a Box kits for young children, hygiene and comfort kits for individuals and families facing financial or medical challenges, and Movie Night kits for families navigating serious illness. Donations of blankets, coats, diapers, wipes, cleaning supplies, and laundry essentials brought warmth, dignity, and relief to those experiencing housing insecurity or food scarcity, while handmade amigurumi plushies, decorated “Mugs of Love,” and toy donations offered encouragement and care to children, seniors, and patients in hospitals and treatment centers.
Through student-led clubs and partnerships with local organizations, the McDonogh community also addressed broader needs, supporting hunger relief, access to sports, clothing for survivors of domestic abuse, and school supply initiatives. Together, these efforts reflected a shared commitment to service rooted in empathy, generosity, and action—honoring Dr. King’s legacy by turning care for others into meaningful impact throughout the Baltimore community.
