Fourth Grade Closing Ceremony Celebration

The Fourth Grade Closing Ceremony on Friday, June 4 at Childs Memorial Terrace had all the elements of a typical year—the procession of class banners, the Fourth Grade Drum Corps leading their classmates down Chapel Hill, memories of the Class of 2029’s Lower School years, advice for the students coming behind them, certificates, speeches, songs, and of course, the much-anticipated blazer toss. While the rest of the Lower School enjoyed the 2021 ceremony via livestream in their classrooms, the fourth graders and their families contended with some noisy, uninvited guests—cicadas, which emerge every 17 years!

The Closing Ceremony was also an opportunity to say farewell to Head of Lower School Barbara Robins who is retiring after an illustrious career in education, including16 years at McDonogh. Congratulations to all!
