Living Legacy Dinner and Debate
More than 20 members of the John McDonogh Living Legacy Society and guests attended “Dinner and Debate,” on Wednesday, May 22, an opportunity to see how debate at McDonogh has evolved since the early days of the Allan Debating Society. Current members of the debate team argued the topic “The threat of nuclear war vastly outweighs the threat of global warming,” after which champion alumni debaters Ryan James ’17 and Nishad Neelakandan ’17 explained the nuances and strategies the students employed. McDonogh coach Daryl Burch explained to the guests the importance of preparation and the ability to “think on your feet.” Judging by the Q&A that followed the debate, the audience was clearly impressed.
