Farm-to-Table Learning Starts in the Pumpkin Patch

McDonogh students are LifeReady. What does this mean? We teach students how to think, not what to think, empowering them to lead lives of consequence and do the greatest good.

LifeReady Skills Achieved: Connecting | Communicating | Collaborating

Kindergarteners took a hayride to Roots Farm on Friday, October 2, to pick pumpkins and explore the corn maze! These same students planted the pumpkins last spring, so they could see the full cycle from seed to harvest.

The following Monday, October 5, they returned Roots to make pumpkin muffins with the very pumpkins they picked. That's farm-to-table learning at its sweetest!

McDonogh's 800-Acre Labs and Roots Farm expand the School's reach into environmental and agricultural sciences, offering students in prekindergarten through twelfth grade transformative learning experiences that foster deep connections with the natural world. With access to our campus's abundant natural resources, students of all ages have countless opportunities to explore diverse ecosystems, investigate natural and agricultural systems, and deepen their understanding of environmental science.
