Marilyn Boyle - Retired Faculty & Staff - McDonogh School

Marilyn Boyle

40 Years of Service (1986–2026)

Marilyn Boyle is one of a number of retirees who have devoted their entire teaching career to McDonogh. During her 40 years at McDonogh, Mrs. Boyle has built a legacy of deep connection between generations of students, colleagues, and cultures around the world with her distinctive blend of optimism, determination, and unwavering care.

Since she arrived at McDonogh in the fall of 1986, she has taught every level of history from her favorite, U.S. History, to senior electives on topics like Women's History and Russian History.

Mrs. Boyle can often be found in her Allan Building classroom or in the library stacks working one-on-one with students on their research and writing. Known for incorporating civics and current events into her teaching, she's made it her life's work to help students understand how the past illuminates the present to foster their role as engaged citizens.

Over the years, she sharpened her teaching skills, earned a master's degree, and raised a family. When her former students became colleagues, she was their mentor and shared with them the lessons she had learned along the way.

Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Boyle founded McDonogh's Model UN Chapter and led the club for more than 30 years, giving students a window into global diplomacy and international cooperation. She has also been a tireless champion of global travel and international partnerships, most notably with McDonogh's partner school Seijo-Gakuen High School in Japan, where she has coordinated the reciprocal two-week exchanges that have connected our communities for almost 40 years.

Marilyn, the McDonogh community has been made better thanks to your gifts of kindness, patience, and flexibility. After four decades connecting students to history and cultures across the globe, we celebrate you and wish you every happiness in your retirement.
