Christy Etchison - Retired Faculty & Staff - McDonogh School

Christy Etchison

20 Years of Service (2006–2026)

Christy Etchison did not plan to become a teacher. In fact, she went to school and trained to be a clinical nurse in a hospital oncology center. Later, however, she decided to focus her energy and commitment on teaching and began her career at McDonogh in 2006 as a substitute teacher and an assistant in the Learning Center. She quickly demonstrated her ability to teach and adapt lesson plans at a moment's notice, and along the way, she learned about ways to address learning differences. She used her knowledge to provide targeted support to students in need.

Eventually, Mrs. Etchison became a part-time sixth grade science teacher and found ways to make it engaging and fun, developing many science enthusiasts along the way. In 2011, she became a full-time faculty member and has been humbly setting the standard for excellence in teaching ever since.

Mrs. Etchison is all about the kids and making sure every student feels valued and heard. As a teacher, she is kind, committed, and consistent. As a person, she is open, honest, and unselfish. She is respected by all.

Her superpower is to quickly assess a situation and find the best solution, from setting up a fifth grade science lab to officiating the latest fifth grade best friend drama, and everything in between.

Christy, please accept our deepest gratitude for your years of dedication, kindness, and devotion to Middle School. We wish you nothing but happiness in your well-earned retirement.
