History has been made in classroom 124 of Allan Building — truly — it's where Ane Lintvedt has shared her love of the past for 42 years.
Ms. Lintvedt came to McDonogh in 1984, determined to push the discipline of history past its traditional focus. Along with her lessons in World History, she eagerly introduced underrepresented historical narratives through electives like Women's History, Native American History, and, later in her career, a research seminar on John McDonogh.
She built one of the first comprehensive high school World History programs in the country. She chaired the History Department for 13 years, and she has led our Cum Laude Society chapter since 2010. And she did all of this from 124 Allan.
Ms. Lintvedt's commitment to expanding students' understanding of the past has earned her many awards. But, perhaps her greatest accomplishments are stewarding McDonogh's Memorial to Those Enslaved and Freed to completion, her support in building the Wilson | Young Archives and Special Collections, and her personal scholarship on the life and times of John McDonogh. Like every great historian, Ms. Lintvedt has redefined our community's understanding of itself and, like every great history teacher, she has given generations of students the tools to find a path forward from the past.
Ane, as someone who has taught others to think deeply about the past, we hope your future holds much time to continue that exploration on your own terms. We celebrate your tremendous impact on your students, our community, and the field of history education, and wish you well in your next chapter.
