Sports Medicine - Health - Safety - and Support - McDonogh School

Sports Medicine

McDonogh's three full-time athletic trainers work together to provide preventative services, emergency care, and clinical interventions for our student-athletes during their time at McDonogh School. The Sports Medicine team collaborates closely with coaches, the Strength and Conditioning team, and the Infirmary internally, and with the University of Maryland Medical System externally, to provide high-quality healthcare for all athletes in their care.

How Our Athletic Trainers Work

The National Athletic Trainers' Association defines athletic trainers as highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals specifically trained in the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of medical conditions and emergent, acute, and chronic injuries.

At McDonogh, our athletic trainers are educated in and work in the following areas:

  • Injury and illness prevention and wellness promotion
  • Examination, assessment, and diagnosis
  • Immediate and emergency care
  • Therapeutic intervention
  • Health care administration and professional responsibility
