Lower School - Academics - McDonogh School

Lower School

In Lower School, our teachers help each child grow toward his or her potential intellectually, artistically, physically, socially, and emotionally. Our academic program is both creative and coordinated, providing the stimulation and direction necessary to challenge eager young minds. And, our safe and supportive environment allows children to take intellectual risks and even make mistakes from which they can learn.

Students at each grade level, prekindergarten through four, are grouped heterogeneously into homeroom sections of approximately 16 students each. Homeroom teachers are responsible for instructing students in reading, writing, language arts, math, and social studies. Special subject teachers instruct students in science, visual arts, performing arts, physical education, and library/media.

Lower School children are treasured members of the McDonogh Family. A warm and joyful atmosphere fosters a sense of connectedness, encourages a spirit of belonging, and builds pride in the school community. These qualities serve to form a strong foundation for an inclusive and spirited student body.
