What inspired you to become a teacher?

Becoming a teacher was inspired by the incredible musicians and mentors who shaped my journey before college. Their passion and guidance didn't just ignite my love for choral music — it showed me how powerful a great teacher can be in shaping lives. I'm driven to pass on that same inspiration and support to my students every day, helping them discover their own voices and passions.

Why did you choose the subject area that you teach?

Singing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and choir has given me so much more than just music — it's given me a family. I've been incredibly lucky to build lasting friendships and a true sense of community with people who share my passion. Every ensemble experience reminds me of the power of connection and how music brings us together.

What do you find most rewarding about teaching and working with students?

What I find most rewarding about teaching is watching students discover their potential and grow in confidence. It's incredibly fulfilling to be part of that journey, whether it's a breakthrough in their skills, seeing them take pride in their work, or simply watching them find joy in music and connection with others.

Every student brings unique energy and ideas, and the process of nurturing that — helping them find their voice, literally and figuratively — reminds me why I love this profession. Being able to support and celebrate their progress feels like a privilege.

Are there any memorable or impactful moments in your teaching career that stand out to you?

In 2015, my chamber choir at Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, California, had the honor of performing at a memorial sculpture garden unveiling in honor of Maya Angelou and other Civil Rights pioneers. Ms. Angelou was in the audience and spoke with my students at the end of the performance. It was one of the most inspiring moments of my career.
