McDonogh's First Aid Club was honored with the American Heart Association’s Eastern States Region Young Hearts Award, which recognizes an exceptional group of student leaders whose dedication to heart health has made a meaningful impact on the community. Kate Poole, Senior Director of School Engagement at the American Heart Association, presented the award on Thursday, November 20.
Throughout the past year, the club has organized and led initiatives centered on first aid education, CPR awareness, blood drives, nutrition, and overall wellness. Their commitment to empowering peers—especially through hands-on CPR demonstrations for Middle School students—embodies the AHA’s mission to build healthier, more prepared communities. The club’s collaboration with the Middle School on the Kids Heart Challenge further highlights their leadership and ability to inspire others to champion heart health.
The club members' enthusiasm, service, and advocacy reflect the true spirit of the Young Hearts Award. This year’s honored student leaders are seniors Benjamin Elkins, Arjun Sood, Carter Lin, Jack Mislow, Nathan Huang, and William Ashley. Congratulations to these outstanding young leaders for their dedication and impact!
