New Head of Middle School Announced

McDonogh School is pleased to announce that after completing a comprehensive, international search, Kristy Lundstrom will serve as the next Head of the Middle School beginning July 1, 2020. Lundstrom brings more than 25 years of outstanding experience as an educator and administrator in the United States and Europe. Currently, she is the Executive Director of The Viktor Rydberg Schools Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. The Foundation, which runs seven independent, bilingual (English/Swedish) schools, is dedicated to improving the quality of teaching and learning and to being pioneers in all aspects of education.

Lundstrom, who grew up in the United States, started her career as a mathematics teacher. From there, she held progressively responsible positions, including Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Supervisory Chair of Math and Science at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, a boarding school for students in grades 7-12; Head of School at the Scandinavian School of Brussels, a PK-12 trilingual (English/Nordic/French) institution; and Principal of an upper secondary school in Sweden. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from Birmingham-Southern College and a master’s degree in International Education Management and Administration from Stockholm University.

“Kristy’s proven dedication to reimagining teaching and learning to benefit students aligns perfectly with McDonogh’s LifeReady mission,” says Head of School Dave Farace ‘87. “We are thrilled that she will bring her expertise and dedication to children to McDonogh.”

Lundstrom, whose personal and professional motto is “Kids Go First,” says, “I have admired McDonogh’s focus on the joy of learning from afar. Now, I look forward to moving to campus and meeting all of the students and parents, as well as working with the talented team of teachers and staff. I can’t wait to get started!”
