Lower School Closing Ceremony Sparks Joy

The Lower School celebrated the end of an eventful year at McDonogh on Friday, May 29. First, the Class of 2028 was honored in their own Zoom ceremony. The virtual event began with student voices singing the Lower School favorite “On My Way.” The celebration continued with speeches from David B. and Vivienne A., Grace K. and Thomas R., Lexi R., and Simryn R., as well as from each of the fourth grade teachers. As is tradition, Head of Lower School Barbara Robins shared memories sent to her by the fourth graders while a slide show of images from their time at McDonogh played. Then, Associate Head of Lower School Zakaria Sherbiny read the names of each member of the Class of 2028. Finally, Lower School faculty members bid farewell and students in PK through third grade serenaded the parting fourth graders with “The Best of Whatever You Are."

In a separate ceremony that followed, the entire Lower School was treated to a video looking back over the events of the 2019-2020 school year. Then, also in video format, teachers praised their classes and gave parting advice and well wishes. After the ceremonies, students returned to their homeroom teacher’s Zoom classrooms for final goodbyes. A theme that ran throughout each ceremony was that McDonogh’s faculty is very eager to see their students again soon. Congratulations to everyone in the Lower School on another successful school year!
