On the 30th anniversary of the tragic death of Ceres M. Horn ’86, the Upper School gathered to remember the remarkable alumna in the theatre that bears her name.

On the 30th anniversary of the tragic death of Ceres M. Horn ’86, the Upper
School gathered to remember the remarkable alumna in the theatre that bears
her name. Students, faculty, and staff honored the memory of Ceres, who was
killed in an Amtrak train crash in Chase, Maryland on January 4, 1987 while on
her way back to Princeton University to finish her freshman year. She was 16
years
old.
Ceres was a remarkably bright and vivacious young woman with tremendous
promise who lived her short life to the fullest and with the utmost character. She
left
an everlasting imprint on many.
The assembly began with a poignant remembrance by Nan Cohen '85,
recorded
several years ago at Viewpoint School in California where she teaches. Cohen’s
stirring talk about Ceres, focuses on a moment in their friendship that continues
to inspire her today.
Next, Middle School teacher Jon Aaron ’72 gave remarks including a story of
how Ceres earned a
role in
the 1983 Middle School production of The Mouse That Roared. He also
shared
the history of the transformation of Edwards Gym to the Ceres M. Horn Theatre.
The assembly continued with students and faculty describing their favorite
memories in the Horn Theatre via video and concluded with the Founder's
Day
Song.
