Team McDonogh Races for a Cure

The rain and cold temperatures did not keep the McDonogh Community from coming out in force October 18 for the 17th annual Komen Maryland Race for the Cure in Hunt Valley. With 1,144 members, McDonogh was the largest team for the fourth year in a row.

"Despite the weather conditions, it was inspiring to see thousands of people, with smiles on their faces, ready to walk, jog, and run to support this worthy cause. What was more amazing was the generosity of the McDonogh community, which raised a record breaking $44,519, almost $5,000 more than our goal," said Natasha Wesker, co-chair of the McDonogh Parents Association Race for the Cure Committee.

Students, parents, grandparents, teachers, staff, and alumni ran and walked together wearing orange team t-shirts under or over their wet weather gear. This year's t-shirt was designed by Mohit P. '17.

An additional contingent of teachers and upper school students offered cups of water and encouragement to what seemed like an endless flow of runners and walkers midway through the race.

A special thank you goes to the McDonogh Parents Association Race for the Cure Committee, chaired by Natasha Wesker and Kim Callari, for uniting the McDonogh Community in the effort. Special thanks also goes to the sponsors of McDonogh's team: Chesapeake Wealth Management, the Lang family, and the Law Offices of Jill Snyder.
