Seventh graders set sail in Annapolis, exploring the Chesapeake Bay through hands-on sailing and STEM activities with the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park and Watermark at City Dock on Thursday, September 25. Students examined the Bay’s ecosystem, the impact of human activity, and the importance of conservation, connecting history, culture, and science in real time.
This experience is part of an ongoing Greatest Good McDonogh project, through which students engage in real-world environmental challenges by investigating the health of ecosystems, specifically the decline of oyster populations in the Chesapeake Bay. In this course, work is supported in partnership with the Coastal Conservation Association, allowing students to see how local restoration efforts connect to global ecological issues and develop a deeper understanding of their role in conservation.
