A Weekend of Model UN Success

This past weekend, January 15–18, 16 students from the Model UN team dove headfirst into debates on historical and contemporary national and international issues. Competing at Columbia University alongside 700 of the top students from around the world, they demonstrated remarkable dedication, collaboration, and diplomatic skill throughout the conference. Below, students reflect on their committee experiences and the roles they represented.

Kaitlyn Chisamore, Outstanding Delegate:
“In my committee, The French Wars of Religion, I represented Albert de Gondi, a Catholic noble and advisor to the monarchy. Throughout the conference, I used my connections to become the official treasurer of France and a close minister to the king. I also employed creative strategies—including requesting assassins and learning hypnosis—to consolidate power. I concluded the conference by uniting France through the creation of a split state with a single government, allowing Catholics and Protestants to coexist peacefully.”

Samantha Keane, Outstanding Delegate:
“In my committee, Fall of the Qing Dynasty, I represented Zaifeng, Prince of Chun, a high-ranking member of the Qing dynasty. During committee sessions, I worked with peers to crack down on foreign intervention, implement key economic reforms, and prevent internal uprisings, all while rising to the status of emperor.”

Arjun Sood, Honorable Mention:
“In my committee (Avatar), I represented Fire Lord Ozai and worked to establish global dominance while maintaining peace and unity. During committee sessions, I collaborated with other powerful figures to preserve my authoritative position and strengthen communities across all nations.”

William Fuchs, Verbal Commendation:
“In my committee I represented South Africa, working on the sustainable development goals the UN has set, and the issue of tariffs. I focused on being confident and working well with others to draft resolutions, establishing tariff protocols and funding health care infrastructure."

Congratulations to these students for their hard work, resilience, and impressive leadership on an international stage.
