A group of 15 Upper School students made a significant impact at this year's Baltimore Student Diversity Leadership Conference (BSDLC) called "They Not Like Us: The Next Generation of Social Justice Leaders." Hosted at Sandy Spring Friends School on Saturday, November 16, participants explored various aspects of identity, community building, and positive change. Ten McDonogh students participated as delegates, while five others served as core facilitators, leading sessions on civic engagement, navigating language with both humor and sensitivity, fostering belonging in academic spaces, and cultivating personal joy and authenticity.
“This experience provided our students with valuable tools to strengthen our school community and advance important conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion,” says McDonogh's Director of Equity and Inclusion Enaye Englenton. "We're excited to see how our students will apply these leadership skills and insights to enhance our school environment and beyond. Their commitment to fostering an inclusive community exemplifies our school's values and mission."
