Students Share Poems and Blankets of Hope

For second and fourth graders, the month of February has been about sharing messages of hope with breast cancer patients and their families in partnership with The Red Devils organization. After learning about the mission of the local non-profit, the two grades collaborated to write poetry with messages of hope to those who need a lift. The poems were printed and bound in a book titled: Dreaming of Hope. On Wednesday, February 14 — the Day of Hope — the two grades joined forces again to make cozy fleece Blankets of Hope. Two weeks later, at the annual Hope Chapel on Wednesday, February 22, the poems of hope were read, songs were sung, and blankets were presented to two members of the McDonogh Lower School community who have been battling breast cancer. The remaining blankets were contributed to The Red Devils for distribution to the families they support.

Director of Greatest Good McDonogh Bridget Collins '90 says, "The students were enthusiastic about this project and eager to use their power to do the greatest good in our local community. This initiative is truly inspiring, and we are proud of our children for their commitment to making a positive impact in the world."
