McDonogh Singers Perform at Disney World

After a pandemic-driven hiatus, the McDonogh Singers, with the support of the School’s Pandemic Planning Committee, traveled to Disney World for a weekend of workshops and the opportunity to perform an incredible set of acapella songs for guests in the park. On Saturday, while enjoying the Festival of the Arts at Epcot Center, the McDonogh group was surprised by Head of Middle School Robyn Little and Upper School Math teacher Willie Little who traveled to Florida to cheer on the group. Later, the students participated in a Broadway workshop led by a Disney Casting agent and vocal coach from the new West Side Story movie. The Singers learned audition skills, and were "cast" in Disney's Frozen to perform the song "Frozen by the Minute.”  In less than two and a half hours, the students staged an incredible scene as their chaperones watched with delight.

In advance of their performance on Sunday, the Singers were taken to an exclusive, behind-the-scenes area to warm up. They delighted the audience, including family members and friends, who had made the trip to experience the event. The following day, the students participated in a workshop presented by one of Disney's "Dapper Dans" on how to do a voice-over for a Disney animated film.

Chaperones Suzanne Eldridge, Mark Spencer, Toni Stefano, Olivia Grant, and Jen Turner were not only impressed with the students’ performance but also with how flexible, cooperative, supportive, and patient the Middle Singers were during the trip. Together, they made memories that will last a lifetime.
