Seventh Grade Tools of the Trade

In his Engineering by Design class, Gregg Kleiman seeks to give seventh graders all the tools they need to become engineers in their own right. First, however, they need to prove their proficiency with actual tools. Kleiman gave students tutorials on using basic tools like hammers, saws, and power drills, and then set them on the task of building tool boxes and Plinko boards. After a lot of of measuring, banging, and drilling, students walked away with a useful storage case for their new tools, a fun game to play with their friends, and most importantly, new skills that will serve them the rest of their lives.
