Third Grade Takes a Shine to Service
Each year the third grade reads The Shoeshine Girl by Clyde Bulla. It is a story about a young girl who learns valuable lessons about hardwork and helping others through a job at a shoeshine stand. To complement their reading, the third graders run a shoeshine stand of their own, inviting family, friends, and faculty members to come down to the Kelly Center for a quick shine. With a little elbow grease and a lot of smiles, students eagerly shined shoes on October 2 and 3, and for their effort they were rewarded with donations that will be used to purchase the materials for their Blankets of Hope project to support the Red Devils.
