Lisa Veltri - Retired Faculty & Staff - McDonogh School

Lisa Veltri

After 20 years at McDonogh, Lisa Veltri has made the calculated decision to retire. Her contributions to McDonogh are many, and her impact on the Upper School community will truly be missed.

Mrs. Veltri came to McDonogh in 2005 after a successful career as a statistician. She was hired as a math teacher, and from day one, she modeled the importance of integrity and values. Students appreciate that she is tough, organized, and passionate about her subject. They learn through her that while math might not be important in everyone’s life, determination and self-discipline will be.

Mrs. Veltri’s colleagues say she is the first one to volunteer for the job no one else wants to do, which may be why, in 2010, she took on the responsibility of registrar. Her masterful ability to shape and orchestrate the complex mechanics of our academic operations has earned her the affectionate title of "regiSTAR!” She works tirelessly to find solutions to the thorniest scheduling issues, always guided by a simple question: "What is best for students and their learning?"

Mrs. Veltri's unique combination of talents has been manifested in countless ways: from teaching computer science and financial literacy to supporting the robotics program and mock trial team. Her leadership as Math Department Chair and Director of Academic Programs is among her many accomplishments, and being named the recipient of the 2016 Ray Oliver Teaching Chair speaks to her excellence. Finally, as a campus resident, she has been a constant and joyful presence in our community. She will be sorely missed on all counts!

Thank you, Lisa, for your devotion to our students' growth—both in character and intellect. We hope that your retirement is filled with little problem-solving and much happiness.
