Learning Services

Building Skills, Confidence, and Independence

Through personalized guidance and a collaborative approach, the Learning Services Team helps students build the skills, confidence, and independence essential for academic success at McDonogh and beyond. Our comprehensive learning services span all three divisions, empowering students from prekindergarten through twelfth grade to reach their full academic potential.

Our committed team of learning specialists, literacy specialists, and math specialists collaborates closely with students, teachers, and families to address various learning needs, including supporting students with skill gaps, mild language- or math-based learning differences; ADHD; and executive functioning weaknesses.

  • Using data-informed decisions in the Lower and Middle Schools, our Learning Services Team provides reading, written expression, and math intervention, while also supporting the development of executive functioning.
  • Our Upper School focuses on fostering age-appropriate student independence through continued academic support and instruction in study strategies, time management, and self-advocacy.

Throughout the McDonogh experience, learning services are designed to support students in their current developmental stage with interventions aimed at building confidence and independence in learning.

A Team-Based Approach

In addition to our Learning Services Team, advisors and teachers are committed to giving each student personalized attention and support with coursework and learning strategies. In some cases, additional tutoring from an independent tutor may be recommended to further enhance academic progress.

By fostering a supportive learning community, McDonogh's Learning Services Team and faculty empower students to take charge of their education and thrive both academically and personally.

Accommodations

Students with diagnosed learning differences confirmed by documentation that meets McDonogh's Accommodation Policy—which will be posted on this page soon—are eligible for accommodations at McDonogh. Student Learning Plans (SLPs) are crafted on a case-by-case basis and take into account individual requirements and demonstrated functional limitations that impact learning.
