Seed to Sauce Ravioli

Last spring, first graders planted San Marzano tomato seeds and left them to grow until the harvest. Now, as second graders, they’ve come full circle, harvesting those same tomatoes and using them to create a savory sauce for homemade ravioli. Under the guidance of Chef Staley in the school’s culinary kitchen, the students learned how to prepare fresh pasta and transform their harvest into a flavorful dish.

This project brings seed-to-table learning to life. Students experience the full journey of their food, from planting and tending in the garden to harvesting, cooking, and sharing a meal. Along the way, they connect science, responsibility, and teamwork in a tangible way, gaining a deeper understanding of where food comes from and the care it takes to bring it to the table.
