FIRST Lego League Robotics Team Qualifies for State Championship

The McDonogh FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics Team competed in a qualifier tournament on Saturday, December 14 and received high marks, guaranteeing them a spot in the state championship.

At FLL tournaments the teams are scored on how well they do in four areas. First, the innovation project where they develop a solution to a researched problem. They are also scored on their robot design. Their core values, or how well they work as a team, are also considered. Finally, the robot game in which their robot runs programmed missions for points.

The McDonogh FLL team placed first in the Core Values category and finished as one of the top three teams overall in the tournament, qualifying them for the Maryland FLL State Championship tournament set to occur February. This marks the third year in a row that the McDonogh FLL team has qualified for the state championship. This year's team includes four first-year members as most of the team moved to the Upper School last year. The team includes five middle school and one lower school members: Max Friedman '25, Gavin D'Souza '26, Kelsey Coley '25, Duncan Sciubba '26, Phoenix Chen '27, and Thomas R '28.
