Children's Mental Health Matters Day

In 2019, McDonogh became the first independent school in Maryland to participate in the Children’s Mental Health Matters (CMHM) initiative, a campaign that brings together non-profits, schools, and other agencies to raise awareness of the importance of children’s mental health. This year, from May 2-6, each division of the School is continuing the important work of CMHM with a series of activities and events.

On Wednesday, May 4, students were invited to wear green to celebrate Children’s Mental Health Matters Day. During Upper School lunch, students had the opportunity to participate in fun activities meant to promote positive mental health and raise awareness about mental health issues. From making their own stress balls to painting as a way of creative expression to meditating, students were given the time to breathe, be mindful, and hopefully keep stress at bay. There were also several stations where students could find materials and resources as well as have frank conversations surrounding mental health. School counselors and student leadership groups will continue to provide activities and resources throughout the week.

The emotional well-being of students, faculty, and staff is of utmost importance at McDonogh School, and the professional counselors in all three divisions are always on hand to listen and offer support services.
