Roots Cooks Up Cultural Connections

While Roots Farm waits for the growing season to begin, Farmer Hood and Chef Staley have been busy helping classes connect with the cultures they are studying. Eighth grade Spanish classes have been reading a book with a character from Bolivia who loves salteñas. Due to allergies and dietary restrictions, Chef Staley taught them how to make a vegetarian version that is similar to empanadas. Meanwhile, sixth grade English Language Arts classes have been reading The Night Diary. Looking to connect with the book’s protagonist Nisha, a 12 year-old girl who loves to cook, students learned the art of making samosas.
