General Summary
McDonogh School is in search of a Long Term Sub to fill the role of Middle School Dance Teacher in the fall term of 2025. The person filling this role will have a passion for creating dynamic and student-centered educational experiences. A strong candidate possesses the ability to utilize a wide range of artistic media in order to develop students’ creative confidence, curiosity, and technical ability. It is essential that they possess a breadth of artistic and educational experience in addition to a deep understanding of their personal specialty. The candidate must be comfortable working in a high-energy and fast-paced environment within which the facilitation and management of numerous student projects occur simultaneously. Additionally, the applicant needs to be willing and excited to work with a team that embraces integrated educational practices for the advancement of an ever-evolving art program.

Essential Functions
- Inspire, engage, and encourage students in the study of dance
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Middle School visual and performing arts department, as well as any and all other Middle School departments
- Use professional growth opportunities to continually grow as a dance educator
- Serve as a Middle School advisor and active member of a Middle School grade-specific team
- Become an engaged member of the McDonogh community by participating in school activities inside and outside of the visual arts department
- Overtly support and act in accordance with the school's mission
- Exhibit professional standards of presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion
- Responding to the needs of the School, including but not limited to, service learning, advisory programs, coaching, assigned supervision, and other areas as determined by the Middle School Head
Recommended Employment Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Dance and/or Arts Education or equivalent experience.
Additional Experience
- Choreography experience including concert dance, musical theatre dance, and commercial dance
- Continual engagement in personal artistic practice
- Experience with arts integration and/or multidisciplinary teaching
- Experience working in a student-centered learning environment, with practical experience with problem-based learning
- Must have proficiency in many dance techniques, including, but not limited to modern/contemporary, ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, cultural dance
- Prior experience teaching dance at the Middle School level

- Must be able to comply with background check, including finger prints, as required by the agency and / or state regulations.

- Must possess personal qualifications as required, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene and physical and mental health that do not interfere with responsibilities.

Working Conditions
Bending. Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Reaching, grasping. Repetitive tasks.
