Utopian Literature

(Senior Term Elective)

This course examines literary attempts to define and depict the perfect society. Questions dealt with include: What elements are necessary to create a perfect society; what happens to the individual in a perfect society; and how much are utopian and dystopian writings merely a reflection of the times during which they were envisioned?
