Pumpkin Planting/Picking - McDonogh School

Pumpkin Planting/Picking

In early June, McDonogh's incoming kindergarten class ventures to Roots Farm with their parents to plant pumpkins and meet their future classmates. Four months later, when they return to the farm by hay wagon, they are amazed to find rows and rows of bright orange pumpkins ready for picking. After harvesting two pumpkins each, the kindergartners visit the chickens and play in the corn maze. As for the pumpkins, one is taken home and the others are turned into pies and bread in the culinary classroom and shared with bus drivers and other support staff.
