Cardboard Boat Race - McDonogh School

Cardboard Boat Race

Art, engineering, innovation, and camaraderie are all part of the annual Cardboard Boat Race. Upper School teams begin with nine sheets of industrial cardboard and a limited amount of glue and paint. For several weeks they work to create what they hope will be a sea-worthy craft. On race day, teams carefully carry their boats to the duck pond (lined by cheering students, teachers, and families) where they paddle their way to the finish line before they sink or their boat falls apart. What's the reward for all the hard work? A prestigious cardboard trophy known as the B.O.B. presented to the Best Overall Boat and a lot of fun.
