Nick Koshar - Retired Faculty & Staff - McDonogh School

Nick Koshar

Many of you may not know Nick Koshar, but you know his work as a member of the Maintenance Team. Early each morning when he arrives at McDonogh, usually by 5:30 a.m., he heads to the office and pulls as many work orders as he thinks he can accomplish that day. Then he collects the tools and other materials necessary to get the job done, hops in McDonogh’s red Ford Ranger pick-up (the only red vehicle in the school’s fleet), and is off. Eight hours later, he’s headed home, proud of what he accomplished and ready to enjoy the rest of his day.

Nick came to McDonogh after his son, Tony, a member of the Class of 2015 graduated. From day one, he has impressed the Maintenance Team with his knowledge, drive, and efficiency.

His goal is to cross things off the department’s “to do” list, completing as many maintenance tickets as possible. And he knows how to get things done!

Over the years, on the rare occasions where there weren’t a lot of work requests, Nick, who spearheaded the conversion of the outside lights across campus to LED, could be found working on the lamp poles and spotlights. His knowledge of all things electrical has been a huge asset to the school.

His supervisor says, “He’s a super hard worker, very independent, self-sufficiant, and motivated. You can feel his energy. He has a drive and understands the value of hard work.”

In retirement, Nick plans to visit family in Bulgaria and hopes to spend more time with his young grandchild. Before he parks the red Ford Ranger pick up for the last time, he’ll remove his family photos from the visor, make sure its tidy, and walk away proud of the job he has done.

Nick, thank you for your strong work ethic and talent. McDonogh has been lucky to have you.
