Art Pop Up Day Gets a Virtual Makeover

Highlighting the incredible talent found in McDonogh’s fine and performing arts programs, Art Pop Up Day has become an important and fun annual event. However, keeping the tradition of art exhibitions and performances popping up all over campus, but in a virtual space, posed a challenge--a challenge that was met with all the creativity one would expect from the Arts Department.

Throughout the day, students in every division were invited to participate in arts-related events and activities. From a virtual dance party in the Lower School to the much-anticipated Middle School Talent Show to an Upper School Mini Concert, performances continued to “pop up” throughout the day for all to enjoy. In addition to virtual performances from Women of Note, Gentleman Songsters, Upper School Jazz Ensemble, Upper School Percussion EnsembleMiddle School dancers, and Honors Theatre, as well as fine art created by students in all three divisions popped up on McDonogh’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram feeds all day. Students were also invited to share their own creative endeavors on FlipGrid.

The goal of Art Pop Up Day is to make art inclusive, accessible, public, and fun so that everyone at McDonogh School can tap into their inner artist. It is the hope of the Arts Department that sharing these performances and works of visual art will spark the imagination of everyone in the community and inspire even more creativity.
