Student Designers Make McDonogh Fashion History

Fashion history was made as more than 100 looks from student designers hit the catwalk during McDonogh’s first ever Fashion Show on the evening of Thursday, May 5. Students from Fashion and Fibers I and II debuted their collections in front of a packed audience in the Klein Lyceum. The collections were a mix of original creations and upcycled looks that tackled everything from casual wear to high fashion. A roar of cheers and applause greeted each model as they hit their first pose on the runway.

McDonogh’s Fashion and Fibers courses, taught by Robert Penn, engage students in various design challenges to create and construct pieces of wearable fashion, garments, and art. Each student is exposed to a range of fiber processes, such as weaving, felting, sewing, dyeing, and surface manipulation. The designers keep a sketchbook and are encouraged to develop a well-rounded portfolio that allows them to take risks, adapt, communicate, and problem-solve in order to further develop their individual vision.
