Seventh Grade Learns a Lesson in Empathy

Recently retired middle school teacher Jeanne Mulligan returned to McDonogh on Friday, October 25 to impart one more lesson to the seventh grade. Mulligan shared the story of her battle with breast cancer, both the struggle to overcome the disease, but also the strength and inspiration she drew from the McDonogh community during that fight. She explained to students that serving others can be as simple as reminding those who are struggling know that they are not alone. 

After Mulligan's talk, students began working on digital posters that can be used to help raise awareness about breast cancer. Each seventh grader also wrote words of encouragement on a large poster that will be hung at Johns Hopkins as a show of support for cancer patients and their families.
