John McDonogh Monument

Located at the top of Shell Road, the John McDonogh monument serves as a central point of campus life. Each year on Founder’s Day, the school community gathers at the monument to remember McDonogh, the school’s benefactor, who is interred beneath it. The side of the monument is inscribed with John McDonogh’s Rules for Living, the guiding principles he set forth at age 21.
