General Summary

McDonogh School is seeking an energetic, creative, and caring music and performing arts teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.

 

Essential Functions

  • Instruct students in a creative curriculum that would include music, creative movement, drama, and various arts-based skills applicable in other disciplines
  • Create a culturally responsive classroom that promotes a love of performing arts and a welcoming, purposeful learning environment
  • Produce and manage several annual Lower School performances
  • Work collaboratively with other performing arts teachers, division colleagues, and administrators
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents proactively and professionally through websites, email, phone calls, in-person conversations, bi-annual progress reports, etc.
  • Demonstrate a mindset of customer service, flexibility, and responsiveness; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage special projects and programs
  • Manage classroom administration and record-keeping; plus, manage a budget effectively
  • Express a clear interest in becoming an active member of the McDonogh community
  • Actively participate in professional development in order to remain current with best practices in education and teaching performing arts
  • Perform non-teaching duties in order to support and assist students throughout the day
  • Demonstrate professional standards of presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion

Recommended Employment Qualifications

A minimum of 3 years teaching in an Elementary/Lower School setting . Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. Formal training and qualifications in music and elementary or early childhood education.

Additional Experience

  • Proficiency in using a Learning Management System such as Canvas and Seesaw
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a Lower School setting
  • Experience with a variety of productivity and collaboration tools, including Google and Microsoft app suites
  • Experience with early childhood preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience in educational research on best practices
  • Proficiency as an accompanist

Working Conditions

Bending. Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is typical, generally under 25 pounds. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Reaching, grasping. Repetitive tasks. Stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling. Working with moderate to loud noise levels.
