General Summary

The School Nurse provide health services to the McDonogh School community, including first aid treatment, and on-site triage and treatment for injuries and and mild to acute sicknesses. The School Nurse also provides support to students and other community members with chronic illnesses.

 

Essential Functions

  • Provide general first aid, emergency care, and administration of medication for students, employees, and guests, including collaboration with families
  • Document all student Health Room visits in the school’s system; communicate student visits with parent/guardian and staff members, as appropriate
  • Provide acute injury, disease, and well-being management including, but not limited to, orthopedic injuries, diabetes, asthma, allergies, seizures, ADD/ADHD, and depression
  • Prepare First Aid supplies and medical forms for school field trips

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Bachelors Degree. Must have valid and current Maryland licensure as a Registered Nurse.

Additional Experience

  • A minimum of two years relevant experience.

  • Experience successfully working with a culturally diverse staff & community also required.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any boosters recommended and available to the general public, absent eligibility for medical or religious exemptions.
  • Must have proven problem solving skills, be self motivated, and adaptable
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Working Conditions

Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Reaching, grasping. Repetitive tasks. Sitting. Squatting. Standing. Stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling. The potential for exposure to blood/body fluid/tissue. Walking around campus.
