Class of 2018 Celebrates Commencement

McDonogh’s Class of 2018 graduated under sunny skies on Childs Memorial Terrace on Friday, June 8. The morning began with a Baccalaureate Service in the Ceres M. Horn Theatre, during which retiring Headmaster Charlie Britton addressed the graduates and their parents. Shortly after, the seniors processed out of Tagart Memorial Chapel and down the hill to the applause of faculty, staff, family, and friends. After awards were presented, senior speaker Jaime Young earned a standing ovation for her message about individuality and making a difference. She said, “Collective individuality is the channel to creating a dynamic network of people who are capable and able to make this world of ‘possibility’ into one of action. I hope that our class can continue to build upon the network we already have established to make a world of action happen.”

After the 152 seniors received their diplomas, an honorary diploma was presented to Mr. Britton. Following the commencement exercises, the graduates and their families enjoyed a reception by the John McDonogh monument.
