The American Immersion Program

McDonogh offers a comprehensive American Immersion summer program for international students ages 9 through 17. The program blends academics, cultural interactions, language instruction, travel, and traditional summer activities. The American Immersion program at McDonogh will make learning fun, with its unique combination of adventures and experiences.

Students may enroll for two-, four-, or six-week programs. Classes will emphasize listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Activities and trips will allow students to experience American culture and practice their English while venturing to some of the country’s most exciting, interesting cities — Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York, and Baltimore to name a few.

Program Director Jenny Zhaohong Li teaches beginner to advanced levels of Upper School Chinese at McDonogh School and serves as an AP Chinese exam reader for the College Board. Prior to her tenure at McDonogh, Ms. Li was the Associate Director of the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy Summer Program at Oberlin College, Ohio, and she taught plant physiology at Tsinghua University in China. Ms. Li is a welcoming, culturally-sensitive professional committed to making international students feel at home. She supervises a staff of experienced language specialists dedicated to improving the English language and culture of each student, regardless of proficiency at admission.
