McDonogh offers a comprehensive American Immersion summer program for international students ages 9 through 17. The program blends academics, cultural interactions, language instruction, travel, and traditional summer activities. The American Immersion program at McDonogh will make learning fun, with its unique combination of adventures and experiences.
Students may enroll for two-, four-, or six-week programs. Classes will emphasize listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Activities and trips will allow students to experience American culture and practice their English while venturing to some of the country’s most exciting, interesting cities — Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York, to name a few. Students will also enjoy classic American pastimes, such as watching professional baseball, attending movies and live theater, and visiting the beach.
Program Director John Wood, Ph.D. teaches advanced levels of American History at McDonogh and oversees the school’s boarding program for boys. Beyond his academic credentials, Dr. Wood is a welcoming, culturally sensitive professional committed to making international students feel at home. He will supervise a staff of experienced language specialists dedicated to improving the English language and cultural literacy of each student, regardless of proficiency at admission.
